Dr. Seuss said “you’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child,” and he was right! To celebrate Read Across America Week, which kicked off on Dr. Seuss’ birthday, middle and high school students connected with elementary students by reading to them. It was a great way to strengthen the sense of community in our school!
Students enjoyed “green eggs and ham,” “cat in the hat” juice slushies and “one fish, two fish” afternoon snacks to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Big thanks to the Culinary Team for their creativity!
Check out what’s new: pizza flavors, like bacon chicken ranch, veggie and cheeseburger, homemade Italian dressing on the sub line plus garlic hummus with chips and vegetables for grades 3-12. Let us know what you think!
Let's roll!

Last week, the Culinary team hosted Justin Krezmer who ran a smoothie taste test. Students sampled “food court,” which is an orange cream flavor, and “grandma’s apple pie.” Both flavors of these healthy smoothies were delicious but “grandma’s apple pie” was the favorite!
Sebastian Carroll and Rayhan Sayeed had their submissions accepted to the Start Here invitational HS MS art exhibition held by the RIT College of Art and Design. Sebastian’s (grade 11) pencil on paper drawing is his own design, which he has been working on intermittently for two years. Rayhan (grade 10) taught himself to crochet during the COVID-19 lockdown and crafted the cardigan pictured here. The Start Here exhibition features just 200 pieces of student artwork selected by middle and high school teachers in New York state; the artwork was displayed at the Bevier Gallery on campus. Congratulations to Sebastian and Rayhan!
ACS students, keep reading over winter break to rack up those minutes!
For the annual fourth grade field trip, fifteen students hit the slopes at Swain Resort to learn to ski. Looks like they had fun learning something new and enjoying the fresh air!
The Northern Lights dance scheduled for this Friday, February 17, has been postponed until after winter break. Stay tuned for a new date.

Although the pool of participants was limited, the intensity of the competition was anything but at the 2023 Spelling Bee in Arkport. After 20 grueling rounds, Kaleb Claar-Warren emerged as the champion, clinching the title with the spelling of the word "arrow." Congratulations to Kaleb and all the contestants who participated in this year's event.
The house was packed, and the A-C boys JV basketball team put on a show during last night's Steuben County League championship game! Congratulations to the JV boys team on their 2023 league championship!
Thank you to all of our student volunteers that have helped with announcements since December. Way to go Ryan, Thomas, Harper, Kaylee, Max, Landon, Rainey, Carson, and Scarlett!
